Gokai, a gentle reminder.

‘’Reiki is love,

Love is wholeness,

Wholeness is balanced,

Balance is well being,

Well-being is freedom from disease.‘’

-Dr. Mikao Usui

When you start to dive deeper into different healing modalities, you soon discover that most of them hold a base of sacred principles to guide their practice.

Reiki, healing on hands, has a unique foundation, the Gokai, meaning, five principles.

Here are the five different fundamentals in their traditional language, Japanese, translated into basic English.

Kyō Dake Wa / Today only

1) Ikaru Na / Anger not

2) Shinpai Suna / Worry not

3) Kansha Shte / Gratitude do

4) Gyō  Hagueme / Path Strive

5) Hito Ni Shinsetsu Ni / People kindness

From these statements unfold the well-known affirmation,

‘’Just for today,

I will not be angry,

I will not worry,

I will be grateful for my many blessings,

I will do my work honestly,

I will be kind to all living things.’’

The base of the Reiki is extremely simple and relevant. For all practitioners and patients, try to remember these principles as often as possible.

As a gentle reminder, you could simply use the Gokai as a cellphone background, an house decoration or a quote in your planner.

Sometimes, by surrounding ourselves with such affirmation, we start walking a path filled with more kindness and authenticity, a little more every day.

Reiki Masters also recommend chanting the Gokai 3 times in the morning and evening. As a mantra, Gokai has the power to shift your life perceptions for the best.
