Reflection on Yoga

My journey with Yoga started 7 years ago already, times flies. The truth is, it has been full of upsides downs. Through thousands of hours of Asanas (postures), Pranayamas (Breathing exercises), Mudras (Hand gestures) & Mantras (Chanting), I have learned more about myself than I would probably never have if Yoga did not enter my life.

It has been for me a journey of uncovering layers of myself that need attention and healing while connecting more to the very center of myself, the source of life.

People practice Yoga because it makes them feel good, it opens the door to new possibilities in life. It is how Yoga is.

“The word Yoga is derived from the Sanskrit root Yuj meaning to bind, join, attach and yoke, to direct and concentrate one’s attention on, to use and apply. It also means union or communion. It is the true union of our will with the will of God (…or the Universe, if you prefer this term). ‘It thus means,’ says Mahadev Desai in his introduction to the Gita according to Gandhi, ‘the yoking of all powers of body, mind and soul to God (Universe); it means the disciplining of the intellect, the mind, the emotions, the will, which that Yoga pressuposes; it means a poise of the soul which enables one to look at life in all its aspects evenly.”

…”When his mind, intellect and self (ahamkāra) are under control, freed from restless desire, so that they rest in the spirit within, a man becomes a Yukta - one in communion with God (Universe). A lamp does not flicker in a place where no winds blow; so it is with a yogi, who controls his mind, intellect and self, being absorbed in the spirit within him. When the restlessness of the mind, intellect and self is stilled through the practice of Yoga, the yogi by the grace of the Spirit withim himself finds fulfilment.”

…“This is the real meaning of Yoga - a deliverance from contact with pain and sorrow.” - From B.K.S IYENGAR Book, Light on YOGA.

Yoga offers the experience of the truth.

It allows diving into a deep spiritual walk of well-being.

Yoga offers so much.

It offers more than one could potentially imagine.

It opens doors to a new way of life,

Doors to a world of new perceptions and reality.

I believe once you start walking this path of life, you can never go back to old ways of doing things.

Yoga opens doors to the true self.
